Veterans Crisis Line

For U.S. veterans, service members, their families and caregivers: call 988 then press 1, or text 838255 (or chat online). These services are free, confidential and available 24/7. You don’t need to be enrolled in VA health care to access.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, emotional distress, or thoughts of suicide, you can call or text 988 to connect with the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. This free, confidential service is available 24/7, offering immediate support from trained counselors. You can reach out to 988 anytime you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or in need of someone to talk to — no matter the situation.

If you prefer to text rather than call, this service is available 24/7: Text “HOME” to 741741 in the U.S. It’s free and confidential, and you’ll be connected with a trained counselor who will listen and help you work through what’s happening.

SAMHSA’s Disaster Distress Helpline

For emotional distress related to disasters, major events or trauma (natural or human-caused): call or text 1-800-985-5990. Free, multilingual, and available 24/7 for anyone in the U.S. who needs immediate support.

National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (U.S.)

In any mental-health or emotional crisis (including thoughts of suicide), you can call or text 988. This service connects you with trained crisis counselors who listen, provide support and help you stay safe. Available 24/7.

The Trevor Project

​If you’re a young person (LGBTQ+ or questioning) in crisis, you can call 1-866-488-7386, or text START to 678-678. Available 24/7, free and confidential. They offer live help from trained counselors who understand the unique challenges LGBTQ+ youth face.

Trans Lifeline

A peer-run hotline by and for transgender people, offering support and crisis intervention. U.S. number: 1-877-565-8860 (also available in Canada). While hours may vary, the community-based, identity-affirming support can make a big difference.
